All you have to do is leave the stain for 3-5 minutes (without doing anything), or, you can leave it longer while not drying. However, if it is an old coffee stain you will have to soak your clothes in water after you have rubbed the liquid detergent.
Every 5 minutes you should gently rub the cloth using your fingers to loosen the stain. Then, let it stand for 30 minutes in cold water and check again.
If the stain has not yet decided to leave your clothes, soak again between 5 and 15 minutes, but this time in warm water.
